Can the Republican Party unf*ck itself?

“[The government shutdown is] a temporary inconvenience for a lot of people. But if Obamacare is ever implemented, we will never recover from that as a nation. We can never be a free people again.” — Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa)

What the shutdown is really about – Ezra Klein: This is all about stopping a law that increases taxes on rich people and reduces subsidies to private insurers in Medicare in order to help low-income Americans buy health insurance. That’s it. That’s why the Republican Party …shut down the government and [might] default on the debt.

  1. The Smithsonian Museums in DC have been shut down (or are shutting down).
While the Tea Party fights its asinine battle against The Affordable Health Care Act, one has to wonder if things like the Smithsonian being closed isn’t touted as a victory in the Science hating GOP circles. And with the National Parks being closed, specifically Rocky Mountain National Park, Flood Recovery Efforts are being delayed or seriously hampered. Not to mention the umpteen thousands here in Colorado that face furlough days.

Look, I am no fan of Barry Goldwater, but I’d take almost any Barry Goldwater Republican over any of these Jackasses in The House. What kills me is that these Tea Party loons think this is a major victory. They are going to use this as part of their Legislative Hostage Taking Strategy with the debt ceiling “crisis” in a couple of weeks. I so hope the voters remember this and shit-can the Tea Party in 2014.
